One of the items on my bucket list has been to run a marathon. On Pioneer Day this year (July 24th), I was able to run the Deseret News Marathon in Salt Lake. Here are some highlights. I trained by … Continue reading Marathon? Check.
Yesterday, July 21, I attended a 90 minute beginner’s course for all newer cross fitters. It was pretty simple – we mostly just learned proper form and technique on the nine core exercises. I don’t think I remember them all but I know there was the squat (air squat), forward squat, shoulder squat, push press, dip press, sumo press, medicine ball press, dead lift, wall ball and . . . That’s what I remember anyway. At the end we did AMRAP for 7 minutes of 5 pullups, 10 pushups and 15 squats. My muscles simply died on the pushups. I … Continue reading Cross Fit Day 3
Yesterday I started doing a cross fit class from 6-7 am at Cross Fit – The Point, located a couple of buildings away from iGlobal. It’s kicking my butt so far. We’re encouraged to record our progress so here’s what I’ve got so far. July 19, 2012: FRANS: Thrusters and Pull-ups. Thrusters- 65lbs on the bar, hold it at chin level, do a squat, then lift it above your head. Pullups. For the FRANS test we did 21 reps of each (thrusters and pullups) then 15 then 9. Do them as fast as you can. I did it in 18:59 … Continue reading Cross Fit – Days 1 & 2
I haven’t posted in forever but I’ve been feeling like I should be doing more to document this life o’ mine. Yesterday, I got Anders up at 4:45 AM and we got ready for the longest run of my life. … Continue reading 18 Mile Run, Six Hour Closet Cleaning & Furniture Painting
We just finished up our 8 day birthday marathon at our house, with our oldest turning 8, our second oldest turning 6 and Mom turning 24. Again. In the winter, your options are limited for birthday parties and entertainment, especially if you can’t afford skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and the like. This year for our six year old’s birthday outing we headed to Jump On It, in Lindon, Utah. This turned out to be a lot of fun. We brought our four kids plus two of the neighbors and we all loved it. Today’s question: Are you overweight or underweight? According to my BMI, I am overweight. Barely. Though it’s somewhat embarrassing, I now have a li’l gut. And it groweth. See the pic. I’ve always been a skinny and rather underweight guy. I … Continue reading Nils History, Part 12: Mine Love Handles
I put my current pair of Acuvue Oasys contacts in on Feb 20, over 10 weeks ago. I haven’t removed them since. You’re supposed to wear them for two weeks and take them out every night but I’ve been abusing my contacts for about 18 years now so they seem to last forever. These Oasys contacts can last quite a while. Now if I can just make my paycheck last this long… Peace out. Nils. Be the first to like. Several months back I was introduced to P90X at work. I tried it out for a month before it got to be too difficult to stay at work for an extra hour each day. This weekend I broke down and bought the P90X program and started it today. Now I just need to stick with it. Go me! Be the first to like. Like Unlike Continue reading P90X, Baby!
This weekend my neighbor, Scott, invited me on a great bike ride called the Pipeline. I had heard of it before and was excited to go. I have an older cheap mountain bike but it proved sturdy enough. Me, on the other hand – not so sturdy. But more on that in a minute. It all started well, here we are before starting. Then I flipped over the front end of my bike going down a hill, smacked the rocky trail with my desk jockey body (and face) and then landed down here: After a quick scan for injuries, I … Continue reading The Mill Creek Canyon Pipeline
